Our *Easter* Weekend

Since Kyle is going away for a little R&R to Nana and Papa's house this weekend, we decided to celebrate Easter with the kids last weekend. We had a lot of family fun and Easter related activities lined up. Some went over better than others.

We started out with an Easter Egg Scramble hosted by our city's park and recreation department. They throw hundreds of plastic eggs on the ground and the kids pick up 5 eggs and it's over. It is about a 30 second event. Kyle was not in a 'scramble' mood, I guess. He started crying before it even started and didn't stop until we were almost home. Daddy did a great job picking up eggs in a sea of toddlers though. It was really cold and windy, so maybe that was the problem. Hard to really know with Kyle. But Kelsey really enjoyed the eggs that Daddy gathered, minus the candy inside.

Later on Saturday we baked some Easter cookies and colored Easter eggs. As you can see, he was in a much more agreeable mood for egg coloring. Only one cup of dye was spilled in this adventure. Kyle will be the first to tell you that it was Mommy who dumped blue dye all over the table and floor, not him.

Sunday morning, the Easter Bunny did not disappoint. Kyle found his basket with a little game of hot and cold and loved everything the Bunny brought for him. He loves old Tom & Jerry cartoons so the Easter Bunny brought him a DVD among lots of other goodies.

Kelsey also found her own basket. The Easter Bunny helped a little and hid it where her toys are stashed. She loved going through the basket to see what kinds of goodies she got. It is easy to please a 10 month old baby!

The Easter Bunny brought sunglasses. As Kyle would say "we are rockstars!!" These will come in handy in Jamaica, though I doubt Kelsey will leave them on for more than the 20 seconds it takes to snap a picture.

Why does Kelsey always look like she can't quite understand why her brother is so silly for pictures?

The Easter Bunny also brought some teeny tiny hair elastics and new bows. She has enough hair on top for a mini-ponytail. Too cute.

After the Easter basket fun, Daddy took Kyle out in the backyard for another attempt at an Easter Egg hunt. This one went much better.

Except this little incident...the Easter Bunny filled an egg with chocolate Teddy Grahams and hid it on the ground near a picnic table. Well....apparently the big dumb dog isn't as dumb as we think she is and smelled the yummy treats, took the egg into the yard, opened it and ate all of the Teddy Grahams. Kyle found that egg first and said "why is this egg open and empty??" It gave us a good laugh. Lesson learned...dogs can smell through plastic.

He found the rest of the eggs in tact and full of fun surprises--bouncy balls, money, fruit snacks, mini flashlight.

Later on Sunday we took the kids to a 'Meet the Easter Bunny' free family fun day at a local community college. Of course, K&K would rather eat broccoli for breakfast than sit on the Easter Bunny's lap, so we just took in the other activities and saved ourselves a 1.5 hour wait in line to see the Easter Bunny. Both kids really enjoyed the Dog Agility event--dogs running through an obstacle course...and not very well. They thought it was pretty funny when the dogs didn't do what they were supposed to do...which was often.

There were also inflatables and crafts and a book exchange that Kyle enjoyed.

All in all, a very nice weekend. And before the snow came in on Sunday night, we had a chance to go to the playground. Kyle rode his bike and learned that it is much better and faster than walking!

Yes, my bro is getting married in Jamaica on May 26th...at a Beaches resort. So much for the kids to do and lots of sun and warm for Mommy! We can't wait...we need a vacation.
